This four-storey landmark house in North London had been empty for a long time when its current owner purchased it and decided to transform its rather ordinary existing interior to match the ambition of the building’s standout architecture. The property was built into a hillside, with all services inlaid into its concrete substructure, making structural change almost impossible. Internally, however, floors and walls were stripped back to bare concrete throughout, in order to change every single surface. New split levels improved the space flow further. The interiors scheme fulfilled a brief to create a very masculine space, using texture rather than colour to animate and mixing materials wherever possible. A strong emphasis was placed on the scheme’s lighting design, which included a fully-automated, 252-channel scene control system.
