SHH triple award winners!

At the inaugural 2014 London Design Awards in December, SHH were winners three times over!

We won GOLD in the Hospitality Interiors category for our Terrace Restaurant project at London Zoo (also shortlisted 3 times and Highly Commended at the UK Property Awards earlier in the year) and SILVER in the same category for the suite of three restaurants we served up for Levy Restaurants at the National Railway Museum in York.

To cap it all off, SHH won ‘Best Large Design Studio’ - a total surprise, but of the very nicest kind!

Pennethorne's Cafe Bar now open

SHH has created a stunning new venue at Somerset House called Pennethorne’s Cafe Bar for long-term client Levy Restaurants. The day-to-night venue is named after Sir James Pennethorne, the highly-reputed nineteenth century architect of what is still referred to as the ‘New Wing’ of Somerset House. SHH branded the new venue as well as designing the interiors concept for the 85-cover space, taking inspiration and design cues from Sir James and the European ‘Grand Tour’ he undertook in the early part of the 19th century to create a rich, dark and daringly moody space!

SHH named Interior Design Practice of the Year!

Thrilling times at the FX International Interior Design Awards this year! In the company of clients from across our residential and hospitality portfolio, all three of SHH’s founders and directors were present to hear awards host Ed Byrne name SHH as 2014’s Interior Design Practice of the Year. This was a real honour and the result of a public vote with some very stiff competition, which made it extra-pleasing. Our very sincere thanks to all those who voted for us – it was quite a night!

House of Books

SHH has completed the remodelling of the ‘House of Books’ in Hampstead, the former home of Labour leader Michael Foot, known for covering almost every inch of the property in books. True to the spirit of the house, the new owners are also avid readers (owning over 100 linear metres of books) and the property has now been completely redesigned to ensure that their book collection is a central feature, with an aluminium, two-sided bookcase forming a spine around which all five storeys of the spectacular new steel and orange rubber stair are wrapped.

SHH enters the Sporting Arena

Our commercial team is starting to branch out from its traditional hospitality work on individual bars, cafes and restaurants with work for some of the UK’s most prestigious sporting and entertainment arenas and stadia. With new and recent projects for Twickenham, Wembley Arena, The 02, Wimbledon, Ascot and Chelsea FC, we are developing our offer to include masterplanning and operations and legacy strategies. RFU Twickenham Stadium (pictured), for example, was looking to upgrade its services in time for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. SHH worked with Levy Restaurants on the project, creating new designs for over 40 bar and food serveries all around the stadium.

St. Johns Wood Villa

SHH has completed the transformation of a Grade-II listed conservation area property, originally designed at the turn of the last century as one of a series of paired villas, but which had been converted into two apartments in the 1930s when the entrance had been moved. The brief to SHH was to re-unify the property as a single, four-storey family home, re-locating the entrance in its original position and adding a contemporary, two-storey rear extension, whilst also converting a small neighbouring cottage to sit at the end of the garden to house additional office and gym space, plus guest accommodation.
