SHH was briefed by developer client Newmark Ltd to take an existing office building (a handsome stone and brick former Victorian mansion block in Fitzrovia) and convert it into eight apartments, including two new duplex penthouses. The proposal includes a new Mansard roof as the upper floor of the penthouses. The new arrangement stacks up as three 2- and 3-bed apartments on floors 1-3, with two 3-bed penthouses on floors 4 and 5. The ground floor of the block is given over to retail, with the existing retailer (Pret) now taking over the full ground floor and basement area of the great Portland Street side of the property. SHH created the concept designs and space plans for the new generously-apportioned apartments and has now submitted the scheme for planning, before it can become ready for further design development and implementation.
